Explains how the Vinaya Pitaka and its disciple play very important role in the teaching of Buddha.
The Vinaya Pitaka says about the rules for bhikkhu and bhikkhunī to follow. The rules not only guide the Buddhist sangha but also mention the conduced of the daily life of the sangha too. There rules are to control the disciple on physical and verbal action. If there is no the rules ( Vinaya) in the Buddhist teaching, there is no essential in the teaching of Buddha as the Buddha said “Vinayonāma Sāsanasa āyu If the rules, the first laid down by the Buddha is called Mūlapaññaṭṭi and the supplement rules later is known as the Anupaññaṭṭi.
In the Vinaya Pitaka, the rules has been divided into the five divisions namely. There are (1) Parājika Pali, (2) Pacittiya Pali, (3) Culavagga Pali, (4) Mahāvagga Pali and (5) Privāra Pali. Those categories are summarized again into three divisions as Suttavibhangga, khadanka and privāya. The Suttavibhangga is based on patimokha. Suttavibhangga consists of included (4) parājikas,(13) sanghadisesas, (2) Aniyatas, (30) Nissaggiyas, (92) pacittiyas (4) patidessaniyas,(7) Adhikarana and (75) sekhiyas. These (227) rules are for bhikkhu.Again (8) parājika,(17) sanghadisesas,(30) Nissaggiyas, (116) Pasittiyas,(8) Patidessaniyas(7) Adhikarana and (75) sakhiyas,311 rules are for bhikkhunī. Then the Khandakkha is diveded into two part as the Mahāvagga contain ten chapter and the Culavagga contain twelve chapter. And the parivāya contain nineteen chapter.
In the first 20 years after the Buddha enlightenment, these was no nay problem of the sangha order. During the period the disciple of the Buddha, what is suitable and unsuitable to do and to practice for them. According to the parājikakanda Aṭṭhakhathā, because Sudhina who committed the offense of parājika( sexual intercourse) with his ex-wife,the first parājika come to be promulgated.
On one occasion the chief disciple, Sāriputtathero requested the Buddha to promulgated the rule but Buddha answered to him it is no time to lay down the Vinaya. in this point, Sāriputtathero shewed the suitable of the order and wanted protect sangha order before committing the offense. But Buddha did not to control his disciple without reasoning. After the first parājika come out, the Buddha understood that it is the time to lay down the rules. So the Vivaya Pitaka and its disciple play very important role in the teaching of the Buddha.
